About Free Radical Hippie

After a few decades working in education, it was time to think about the next few decades... normal retirement was an option and it would have been lovely, and predictable. When I turned 60, I declared myself untethered to conventional life/rules/expectations.

It seemed only natural for Sofie (previously known as the Brown Hiking Dog), Dave (the best husband on the planet) and me to leave the beauty of the Sierra Nevada mountains for an open-ended adventure on the water.  Sofie became the Brown Boating Dog. We took some sailing lessons, bought a yacht and began living full time aboard in March 2023. The adventure has been fantastic! Lots of learning, some sore muscles, a few sketchy moments, and many gorgeous sunsets.

We have now returned to the west coast and are landbound yet again. Sofie was not a good boat dog, it is hard to paint on a boat, and we missed friends and family. Now, I am baking sourdough, growing sprouts and will continue my blog about the free radical hippie life wherever/however that unfolds...keep up with the adventure by reading the blog.
